About GKSS

GKSS was founded in 1860 and is today one of the largest sports clubs in Sweden with around 3200 members and the leading club when it comes to sailing. The basis for our activities is training, racing and education, aimed at children and youth but also adults wanting to improve or learn to sail in later years.

About GKSS

The basis for our activities is training, racing and education, aimed at children and youth but also adults wanting to improve or learn to sail in later years.

GKSS has its club house with changing rooms, showers and sauna as well as its Marina in Långedrag. The club house is the meeting point for members, summer as winter. The restaurant Sailors’ Inn (Seglarkrogen) is also here.

From early spring to late autumn this venue hosts regattas, sailing camps, training and different corporate events.

During winter the training groups meet to plan the racing schedule for the coming season, discuss tactics, routes and interpret racing rules.

In winter the club also has a wide range of activities for example, educating instructors as well as a number of club evenings for members.

In Marstrand we have our summer club house Korvetten. It is used as race office during regattas and is a meeting point for both sailors and volunteer officials. Korvetten functions well during training camps for our elite sailors and is used for our club conferences. The restaurant Mama’s is also on the premises.

Many interesting events, arranged by GKSS, such as the GKSS Match Cup Sweden, the Swedish Championships for Dragon and the Members Race in September take place in Marstrand. In August 2025 we look forward to arranging the ILCA (former Laser) European Championships with some 300 participants.

“Aeolusön” is GKSS’s own island since 1968. It is situated in the southern archipelago of Gothenburg. On the natical charts its name is Sillfarsholmen. There are sailing camps for children and youth all summer and for many generations this island has created marvellous summer memories.

In GKSS’s Accessability Centre children and adults with functional variations are offered secure ways of getting to know different parts of boating.

For adults who cannot swim we offer swimming courses in our project Water Practice (Vattenvana). There are also possibilities for people of different cultures to meet in sailing activities and language cafés.
